Planned Parenthood Global (PP Global)- Development of a Strategic Plan for the Reproductive Health and Rights Alliance

Introduction:

Planned Parenthood Global (PP Global) is the international division of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) an international non-governmental organization working in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

The Reproductive Health and Rights Alliance (RHRA) is an advocacy project of PP Global ARO that was formed in 2004 by a group of reproductive rights advocates to promote and protect sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in Kenya. The RHRA has established itself as a strong and credible champion for sexual and reproductive health and rights in Kenya. After successfully engaging in advocacy for legal reform in the Constitutional review process, the RHRA is keen to now undertake legal, and health budget advocacy at national and community levels for the implementation of the provisions relating to SRHR while also monitoring Kenya’s commitments in international and regional level treaties under the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

PP Global is seeking a consultant to develop a Strategic Plan for the RHRA is for the next five years.

Purpose

The overall objective of this consultancy is to develop a five year plan to ensure that the RHRA engagements respond to the present context and future challenges while pursuing a strategic engagement to achieve its stated objectives. The strategic plan developed is expected to build on the previous success in its contribution the SRHR agenda in Kenya, so as to ensure that the RHRA is responsive to the needs and expectations of its members.

Introduction:

Job Description

The Associate Regional Director, Service Delivery will provide overall leadership in the development, implementation, and long-term viability of PP Global’s client–centered sexual and reproductive health service delivery projects and; facilitate the efficiency and effectiveness of services so that PP Global’s partners in Africa can carry out their respective missions to provide sustainable quality services. The position reports to the Africa Regional Director.

The position will be based in the Africa Regional Office- Nairobi, Kenya

Position requirements:

Education: Master's or advanced degree in public health, health administration, health systems management, international development, sociology or related field.

Experience: Minimum of ten years’ experience in management of multi-country SRH programs in sub-Saharan Africa preferably with an international NGO, including experience in: program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; developing and monitoring work plans and budgets; working with programs to identify and address training and technical assistance needs, preferably with a focus on rights-based sexual and reproductive health service delivery; and managing work with implementing partners.

Skills: Ability to: work independently and as a member of a team; conceptualize programs; analyze and synthesize information; verbally communicate clearly and persuasively in English, including conducting presentations; facilitating workshops; anticipate, prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a timely manner with a keen attention to detail and follow-through; to independently or through consultation identify the root cause of a problem, determine a solution and systematically implement a solution.

Must have excellent English writing skills and proficiency in using computer software including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, statistical analysis software, and information databases. Must possess professional maturity and demonstrate good interpersonal, negotiation and decision-making skills, as well as cultural sensitivity.

Travel: Ability to travel nationally and internationally a minimum of 40% of time.

Other Requirements: Fluency in oral and written French, Swahili or other regional language is desirable.

The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) was the first United Nations program to have formal civil society representation on its governing body. It is guided by the Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) with rotating representation from 22 member state governments, the 11 cosponsoring UN agencies of the UNAIDS, and an NGO Delegation of 10 civil society representatives, 2 per UN region, which hold the Joint Programme accountable and ensure the needs of communities affected by the HIV response are addressed in strategy and programming.

The UNAIDS PCB is the key global forum for HIV and AIDS policy and the NGO Delegation is integral to the effective inclusion of community voices, and represents the perspectives of civil society, including people living with HIV, within UNAIDS policies and programming. This presents a unique opportunity for committed activists and advocates to make a difference in HIV and AIDS policy implementation in their regions. Summary: 

The primary role of the Senior Technical Advisor, Household Economic Strengthening is to provide technical assistance to 4Children’s USAID mission buy-ins supporting programming for orphans and vulnerable children, and to provide technical leadership and guidance on household economic strengthening interventions for vulnerable children worldwide.   The Senior Technical Advisor, Household Economic Strengthening will provide leadership in the development and utilization of relevant strategies, guidelines, tools, and learning agendas, and in the documentation and dissemination of best practices.   

Post Location: Based in the USA

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree or higher in social work, one of the social sciences, international development/affairs, public health, or a closely related field
  • 10 or more years of experience including-Experience designing, implementing and managing country-level initiatives in household economic strengthening -Experience providing technical assistance and support in one or more core areas of OVC programming preferably in support of PEPFAR funded programming in low resource settings.  -Solid knowledge of social protection, microenterprise, and household economic strengthening instruments and frameworks
  • Proven leadership and inter-personal skills and ability to build and motivate diverse and talented teams
  •  Experience engaging effectively with USAID, PEPFAR, and other bilateral agencies; the United Nations and other international agencies; host-county governments and counterparts; and other key stakeholders
  • Ability to travel extensively internationally Excellent English language oral and written communication skills; fluency in French, Spanish, Portuguese, or Arabic a plus

Since twelve years the Roger Federer Foundation is engaging in education programmes for children living in poverty in Africa and Switzerland. It only works with carefully selected local organizations in long-term partnerships and seeks for systemic change and sustainable impact. The Foundation aims therefore to enable and support the local communities in question to assume their responsibility for the solution of theirs problems with regard to content, organization and finance. Currently 15 programmes are running in Botswana, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and in Switzerland for around 85 million ZAR reaching 275 000 children in 2016. Zero draft 2016 Political Declaration

The co-facilitators of the 2016 United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Ending AIDS (HLM) have released the zero draft of the 2016 Political Declaration that will be negotiated and then considered for adoption at the HLM in June. The co-facilitators are Patricia Mwaba Kasese-Bota, Permanent Representative of Zambia to the United Nations, and Jürg Lauber, Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations.

Member States will negotiate and finalize the Declaration over the next few weeks. The co-facilitators will also hold an informal meeting with civil society, the private sector and other relevant stakeholders on 26 April (8:30 to 9:45 New York time), which will be webcast live at http://webtv.un.org/live/.
