Strengthening families
Care and support of children by family members has a much more beneficial impact on a child and is preferred over institutional support where possible. This makes efforts to support the family and the community to care for children vital. Programming and interventions to address this strategic area include: increasing the flow of resources and support to the community level through effective social protection strategies and cash transfer schemes; ensuring that the entire family is targeted for relevant support, and not just the vulnerable child; and building life skills for children, family members and older caregivers, that is age and gender sensitive.
