RIATT-ESA Call for Promising Programmes on addressing Stigma and Discrimination Among Young People Living with HIV

RIATT-ESA Call for Promising Programmes for Learning and Sharing on Addressing Stigma and Discrimination Among Adolescents and Young People Living With HIV (Considering The Impact Of Covid-19).

Strong evidence suggests that all forms of stigma and discrimination significantly contributes to the ongoing HIV crisis, and is especially damaging for younger populations. Among adolescents, stigma and discrimination has a devastating impact on the access to and uptake of HIV treatment and prevention services; it is also major risk factor for negative mental and physical health outcomes. Building psychosocial resilience of adolescents living with HIV who may experience stigma and discrimination is critical to insuring the optimal development and wellbeing of adolescents. However, there is an urgent need for further investment in evidence-based programmes that address all stigma and discrimination among young people living with HIV. To do this, we need to know what is already being done, what is working and where are the gaps in the monitoring and rollout of programmes.

RIATT-ESA is working on compiling promising interventions and programmes that are specifically addressing stigma and discrimination among ALHIV. This compilation will inform a brief that highlights the current gaps in programming and promising approaches. RIATT-ESA invites organizations to submit evidence of promising interventions and ongoing programmes that address all forms of stigma and discrimination among ALHIV in Eastern and Southern Africa.
